Post RequirementBSc Business mangement digital innovation and entrepreneurship.
Enthusiastic TEFL-certified English teacher with a strong understanding of effective teaching methodologies throughout my learning experience. Experienced in diverse learning environments, with a background in business management and digital innovation.
I have attended well-renowned English teaching institutes, like The British Council and Berlitz, when I was still new to the English language, back in the Summer and Autumn periods of 2013. This exposed me to various teaching methodologies from highly trained and qualified instructors and allowed me to be in a fully English-speaking environment where I had regular interactions with instructors and classmates. This played a key role in improving my overall English skills and has enhanced my speaking and listening skills in particular.
I have also taken part in private tutoring, where I helped a beginner student learn English. We have covered essential topics for a beginner, like: how to introduce yourself, numbers, how to read the time, the days and months, colours, commonly used adjectives and other aspects of the language that are key and vital for a learner at a beginner level to know. Lessons were generally short and smooth where I would start by explaining to the student what would be covered in the lesson and the importance of the topic that we’ll be covering. The new target language was then introduced to the student, where the meaning, form and pronunciation were explained and demonstrated clearly. During this stage, I constantly ask the student to read the words written down out loud and also ask them about the meaning of the new target language to ensure that they’ve got the right pronunciation and the correct understanding. We then conclude the lesson with a series of activities to help them easily retain the information and practise using the new target language.
Lesson plan:
I ensure that my lesson follows the PPP lesson plan (presentation, practice, and production), where the start of the lesson includes a warm-up that consists of short discussions and ice breakers related to the lesson's topic. The next stage( the presentation stage) is where the new target language is introduced to the learner, while covering three crucial points: the meaning, the form and the pronunciation. In this stage, the appropriate resources and teaching techniques are used to ensure that the learner understands the meaning of the new target language, knows its spelling and can read it and pronounce it correctly. The next stage is the practice stage where the learner would get the opportunity to practice using the new target language, and that is done through guided exercises like: fill in the gaps, matching activity, speaking drills and more. The last stage is the production stage. In this part of the lesson, learners get to use the new target language more freely through exercises like: creating sentences, having discussions, debates, creating a short story. This stage aims to enhance and develop the learner's fluency. The learner is expected to receive feedback at the end of the activities to reflect on what went well, and what could be done to improve and progress
Tutoring techniques:
Tutoring teachniques are very important, therefore I ensure to have a communicative approach and an emphasis on real life communication rather than memorisation. I also make sure that complex topics are broken down into manageable steps before moving on to individual practice. In addition to this, I make use of task-based learning where the learner gets to complete meaningful tasks to better understand and use the language.
