Experience:Although I have not yet had formal tutoring experience, I bring with me extensive teaching background as a senior high and college instructor in business and accounting in the Philippines. This experience has allowed me to develop a strong understanding of the subjects, as well as effective teaching strategies that I am confident will translate well to a tutoring setting.
Approach:Lesson Planning
1. Assessment of Student Needs: At the start of each tutoring session, I assess where the student currently stands in terms of understanding the material. This may involve reviewing past assessments, conducting a brief quiz, or simply asking the student to explain what they know about the topic.
2. Setting Clear Objectives: Each session has specific, measurable learning objectives. For example, in accounting, an objective might be for the student to fully understand the concept of "journal entries" by the end of the session. This helps ensure focus and a sense of progress.
3. Content Breakdown: I divide the material into digestible segments to avoid overwhelming the student. For instance, in business, I might break down financial statements into manageable parts, such as balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
4. Real-World Applications: I always try to relate lessons to real-world examples or case studies. This helps students see the relevance of what they are learning and can make abstract concepts easier to grasp. For example, in accounting, I might use real company financial reports to demonstrate key concepts.
5. Review and Reinforce: Each lesson includes time for review and reinforcement. I may incorporate homework or exercises to solidify understanding. At the beginning of the next session, I revisit previous concepts to ensure retention.
