Post RequirementUpper Second Class Graduate from a leading UK university
I bring a unique blend of professional, academic, and extracurricular experiences to my teaching, creating a holistic and engaging learning environment. My journey through prestigious institutions and diverse global internships has equipped me with the ability to simplify complex concepts and connect them to real-world applications, ensuring that students gain both knowledge and practical understanding.
During my years at secondary school, I served as a Prefect in various societies, including Peer Support, the Charity Committee, and the Food & Health Committee, at one of the UK’s top public schools. In these roles, I mentored younger pupils, providing both academic guidance and pastoral care. This experience deepened my belief in the crucial connection between wellbeing and academic performance. I strive to integrate this understanding into my teaching, ensuring my students feel supported on a personal level while excelling academically.
My teaching style is collaborative and student-focused, encouraging critical thinking and fostering independence. I draw on my professional experience working across EMEA markets, including Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East, to bring unique perspectives and real-world relevance to the classroom. Whether through tailored lessons or using examples from my international work in capital markets, ESG, and public affairs, I aim to make learning relatable and engaging.
- Introducing myself and setting the tone
Begin each session by building a personal connection with the student.
Engage in a brief conversation about their day, hobbies, or recent achievements to create a relaxed and positive atmosphere.
Foster trust and ease, encouraging students to ask questions freely.
For returning students:
Review material covered in previous sessions.
Discuss areas they found challenging or any new insights they’ve gained.
Address gaps in understanding while reinforcing prior knowledge to ensure seamless progression.
- Warm Up Activity to ease into the session
I begin with a warm-up activity on familiar topics to set a positive tone and build momentum. This could include reviewing a concept they’ve already mastered or solving a simple problem together. For instance:
In English Literature, I might ask them to summarize a passage or identify themes in a previously analyzed text.
In Economics, we might discuss a current event to connect theory to practice.
This 5–10 minute exercise encourages active participation and builds the student’s confidence before we move into more challenging material.
- Outlining and delving into core content
The core portion of the session is structured around achieving specific learning objectives. I tailor this to the student’s needs, adapting techniques to suit their preferred learning style:
Visual learners: I use diagrams, mind maps, or presentations to explain concepts.
Auditory learners: Discussions and storytelling methods help make abstract ideas tangible.
Kinesthetic learners: Interactive activities, such as role-playing or hands-on exercises, are included to engage them physically and mentally.
During this stage, I integrate real-world examples drawn from my professional experience working across EMEA markets, such as explaining market trends in Economics or using international case studies in Politics. These examples make the content more engaging and relatable, deepening understanding.
- Encouraging small steps of independence : confidence gainer
After covering the core material, I create opportunities for the student to apply what they’ve learned. This might include:
Writing an essay outline independently, with my feedback as guidance.
Solving an Economics problem while explaining their reasoning.
Analyzing a new text in English Literature and identifying key elements.
I provide support as needed but encourage self-reliance, using guiding questions to help them overcome hurdles. This step builds confidence and critical thinking skills.
- Recap & Feedback
Key points are summarised and do an WWW and EBI of how found the session; both constructive feedback from themselves and myself also. I encourage the student to reflect on their learning by asking:
What was most interesting or challenging today?
What would they like to revisit in the next session?
- Ending on a reflective positive note
Wrap up with a fun, motivating activity tailored to the student’s interests:
A quick subject-themed game or trivia.
Watching an inspiring video.
Chatting about an intriguing article or news story.
