Post RequirementPhD
With over 7 years of teaching experience across various institutions and educational levels, I have had the privilege of working with students from diverse backgrounds, guiding them through a wide range of topics in environmental science, biology, chemistry, and biotechnology. I currently serve as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Environment, Jan Evangelista Purkyne University (UJEP) in Czechia, where I teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, including Biomass, Bio-economy and Green Chemistry, Ecotoxicology, Bioremediation, Environmental Biotechnology, and Phytoecology.
My teaching approach emphasizes creating an interactive and student-centered learning environment. I believe in fostering curiosity and encouraging active participation. By breaking down complex topics into understandable segments, I aim to make learning engaging and accessible, whether I am teaching the fundamentals of environmental science to undergraduates or discussing advanced phytoremediation techniques with graduate students. I often incorporate real-world examples and case studies to help students connect theory to practice, particularly from my own research on climate change mitigation and ecosystem restoration.
I adapt my teaching style to accommodate various learning needs, employing multimedia resources, hands-on experiments, and problem-solving exercises to enhance understanding. Additionally, I integrate collaborative projects to help students develop their teamwork skills, which I believe are crucial for success in both academic and professional settings.
Strengths as a Teacher:
One of my key strengths is my interdisciplinary knowledge in environmental sciences and biological systems, combined with my practical research experience. This allows me to provide students with both theoretical insights and practical applications, fostering a deeper understanding of the subject matter. My ability to explain complex scientific concepts in a simple and relatable manner has consistently been appreciated by students.
Moreover, I am highly approachable and committed to creating a supportive and inclusive mentor/student environment. I encourage open communication, where students feel comfortable asking questions and discussing their ideas. My patience and enthusiasm for teaching help students feel motivated to learn, while my organizational skills ensure that the lessons are well-structured and aligned with learning objectives.
Qualifications:
- Postdoctoral Researcher & Assistant Professor: Faculty of Environment, UJEP, Czechia (since 2018).
- PhD in Earth and Universe Sciences: Lille 1 University of Sciences and Technologies, France (2017).
- Master’s Degrees in Phyto-ecology and Plant Biology: Lebanese University, Lebanon.
- Specialization in Biology, Phytotechnology, Bioremediation, and Climate Change Mitigation.
In addition to my formal qualifications, I have led numerous research projects. My experience as a research supervisor has enhanced my mentoring skills, helping students excel in their academic and research endeavors.
Lesson Planning and Structure:
When it comes to lesson planning, my approach is highly structured yet adaptable, based on the needs of each student or group. Before starting any tutoring, I assess the student's current level of knowledge, strengths, weaknesses, and their specific goals. This helps me tailor the lessons to ensure they are aligned with what the student needs to achieve, whether it's mastering a particular topic, preparing for exams, or developing research skills.
I break down each lesson into clear, manageable sections, starting with a brief review of the previous session to ensure retention and understanding. I follow this with the introduction of new material, ensuring to include real-world applications or case studies to make the content engaging and relevant. Throughout, I encourage students to ask questions and engage in discussions to deepen their understanding. I also make time for interactive problem-solving and practical exercises to reinforce theoretical concepts.
After each lesson, I provide summary notes, suggest additional reading, and assign exercises or mini-projects tailored to the student’s pace and learning objectives. This continuous feedback loop helps students track their progress and stay motivated.
Tutoring Techniques:
My tutoring techniques are dynamic and adaptable, focusing on active learning rather than passive instruction. I integrate a variety of methods, including:
- Interactive Teaching: I encourage students to actively participate in discussions, ask questions, and engage in problem-solving tasks. This helps them think critically and apply what they’ve learned in practical scenarios.
- Customized Learning Materials: Depending on the student's learning style, I create or recommend resources such as slides, research articles, videos, or practical experiments that enhance understanding. I also use online tools and simulations where appropriate, especially for complex topics like ecosystem modeling or chemical processes.
- Concept-Based Learning: Rather than simply memorizing facts, I focus on helping students grasp the underlying concepts. This is particularly important in subjects like environmental science and biology, where understanding the connections between processes (e.g., nutrient cycles, climate impact on ecosystems) is key to mastering the material.
- Practice and Application: For science-related subjects, practical exercises and real-world case studies are a critical part of my teaching. I guide students through lab reports, data analysis, and interpreting scientific research, giving them hands-on experience in applying their knowledge. This is particularly important for students preparing for exams or those looking to enhance their research skills.
Tutoring Specialties:
My primary tutoring specialties lie in environmental sciences, biological systems, and ecological restoration techniques. I have extensive experience in teaching subjects such as:
- Phytoremediation and Bioremediation: Helping students understand the science behind using plants and biological methods to restore polluted or degraded environments.
- Ecotoxicology and Environmental Impact Assessment: Teaching students about the effects of pollutants on ecosystems, the risk assessment process, and sustainable solutions.
- Biochar and Biomass Utilization: Guiding students through the principles of using biochar and biomass for energy and soil improvement, backed by my practical research experience.
- Molecular Biology and Biotechnology: Offering private courses in molecular biology, DNA sequencing, and plant stress physiology, which are key areas for students in biology or environmental studies.
For students interested in research, I specialize in mentoring them through the process of scientific inquiry, from experimental design to data analysis and writing scientific papers.
