Experience:Since qualifying with a First Class Honours Bachelor of Education degree, I have just over two full years teaching experience.
I spent two years as a Third Class teacher in a school in Dublin, Ireland. My role as the mainstream class teacher was to ensure the curriculum was taught at a high standard through effective planning and preparing lessons supporting an active learning environment, allowing for the inclusion and participation of all of the students in my class. I implemented a trauma informed practice to my teaching, ensuring the fulfilment of student students’ emotional, social and cognitive needs. I regularly assessed students’ learning and development through both formative and summative methods. During this time, I worked with a teaching assistant, supporting individuals with Down Syndrome and ASD in the mainstream setting. Alongside my role as a mainstream class teacher, I was involved in policy development and supporting newly qualified teachers.
I also spent some time working as a Kindergarten Teacher in a school in Dubai. Similarly as the mainstream class teacher, it was my role to ensure the curriculum targets were met and that children’s social and emotional needs were fulfilled. I worked alongside a teaching assistant, giving direction and guidance as required for this role to ensure a high standard of work was maintained.
Since qualifying, I have tutored students individually in the subject areas of maths, literacy, English language and literacy. I created positive relationships with both the students I taught and their families. Students success was evident through both their summative and formative assessments and their assessments in school.
I also worked as a special education teacher where I supported students both individually and in a small group setting in the areas of mathematics, literacy, early literacy, gross and fine motor skills and social and emotional skills.
I am certified in Trauma informed education, the PAX Good Behaviour Progamme, muti-belief and ethical curricula and diversity and inclusion. I am also paediatric first aid certified. I have undertaken research specialisms on reading in the classroom and the promotion of student engagement in education.
I am an effective communicator as well as active, hands-on and creative in various teaching approaches and methods. I am kind, fair and understanding yet competent at maintaining discipline to support an effective learning environment. As a teacher, I make provision for the needs of all pupils while recognizing and supporting their unique abilities and strengths.
Approach:My approach to tutoring involves careful planning and preparation of lessons that support an active and engaging learning environment. Lessons are integrated and differentiated as necessary and teaching styles are adapted to suit the various learning styles of each of the children I tutor. Lessons are also planned specific to the targets set on students individual education plan. I utilise a wide array of teaching approaches and styles to ensure students remain enagaged, as well as establish positive relationships with students to facilitate learning. I Continuously assess students learning and development using both formative and summative assessments. I also assess students specific targets and set new targets for students to support learning progression and development. I communicate regularly with parents/ families to discuss students' progress.
