Experience:I am qualified as a Psychologist (MA & MSc level) who has privately and in small groups taught GCSE, A Levels, and IB Psychology and Sociology for over 18 years. As a Learning Support Teacher, I also worked with students in small groups and privately tutored them. I have a very good grasp of most KS3 GCSE subjects, the core KS4 GCSE subjects, including Psychology, Sociology, Social Science, and Humanities. I am also familiar with all MYP subjects, the core DP subjects, Career Related Programme, including Humanities, Business Studies, and Sports, Exercise, and Health Sciences. This experience allowed me to support teachers in their planning and cater to the learning needs of students by differentiating tasks.
Approach:For the small groups and students I work with privately in school and after school, I plan and prepare lessons and resources while developing and adapting conventional teaching methods to meet the needs of all students that I work with. In pull-out and in-class support lessons, I work with students privately and in small groups both online and on campus. I utilize various platforms where I frequently incorporate the use of ICT and relevant online resources, including specialized software such as audio-visual materials and reading software, to promote, stimulate, and engage students' interest in learning. I also differentiate tasks and use various scaffolding strategies to ensure that all students' learning needs are being met, enabling them to access the lesson activities and achieve their learning goals while stretching their abilities.
Additionally, I continually review student progress reports and feedback from students, staff, and parents to determine the level of support students should receive and to ensure that students are making good progress towards their quarterly and annual learning goals, including achieving in line and beyond their MAPS Tests and CAT 4 potentials. The students I work with continually make good progress across most subject areas, achieving and often exceeding their learning goals and academic data, especially when tutoring students privately.
