I’ve successfully worked with a range of students, including two A-Level students who achieved A* grades and went on to university. My expertise spans English, Media Studies, and Drama, and I am well-versed in working with students of all abilities, including those with special educational needs (SEN) and English as an additional language (EAL). I specialize in breaking down complex concepts, tailoring sessions to the student's strengths, and addressing areas that need improvement.
My tutoring sessions are interactive and engaging, using a variety of methods—from detailed notes and analysis to real-life examples and past papers. I place a strong emphasis on developing critical thinking skills, helping students not only master the material but also apply it effectively in exams and assessments.
As a tutor, I take pride in building strong relationships with my students, creating a supportive and motivating environment where they feel comfortable asking questions and expressing their thoughts. My goal is to see each student reach their full potential, whether they’re preparing for their GCSEs, A-Levels, or improving their overall academic performance.
Approach:In my tutoring sessions, I not only focus on mastering key theories but also place a strong emphasis on understanding and applying essential terminology, particularly in subjects like English and Media Studies. I help students break down complex theories and terms into clear, digestible concepts that can be easily integrated into their answers, ensuring they demonstrate a strong command of subject-specific language.
When working with students, I incorporate live modelling with past exam papers, showing them how to approach each question strategically and align their responses with the mark scheme. I also place a heavy focus on essay writing, particularly for 20- and 25-mark questions, helping students structure their responses effectively. This includes a clear introduction, well-developed analysis, and conclusions that tie back to the question. I teach students how to handle longer essay questions with more depth, contrasting this with shorter, 12-mark essays that require a more concise approach.
For Media Studies, I offer specific support with Close Study Products (CSPs), breaking them down through weekly quizzes and providing detailed revision notes that cover both theory and terminology. This ensures students have a solid foundation when approaching CSP questions in exams. To prepare them further, I incorporate timed essay writing into our sessions, allowing them to practice under exam conditions.
In addition to exam preparation, I offer comprehensive support with non-exam assessments (NEAs). I guide students through the entire process, from understanding the brief to developing and refining their ideas, helping them produce high-quality, creative work. This includes drafting, revising, and ensuring that their projects meet the assessment criteria.
Overall, my tutoring approach is designed to build confidence and mastery over both exam content and NEA tasks, giving students the tools they need to excel academically.
