I've been tutoring since I was sixteen years old. What started as a small hobby of providing extra-curricular help for some of my IB classmates 10 years ago has gradually evolved into a full-time passion of mine that I derive deep fulfillment from. In addition to the joy I feel from the teaching process itself, the fundamental reason I enjoy what I do lies in the mentorship I give to my students, and in providing for them clarity in perspective, confidence in their own potential, and unwavering support throughout a time in their life when things feel overwhelming and confusing.
Having graduated from the IB in 2014 from École Jeannine Manuel in Paris, and endured the grueling and competitive university selection process, I remember firsthand how much pressure students experience at this critical stage of their academic careers - a time when attaining a particular grade boundary dictates whether or not they'll be able to attend their dream university and begin the life they've envisioned for themselves.
This hyper-fixation on academic performance is often complemented by a collective learning environment that can easily neglect the unique, subtle nuances of each individual's learning style and pace. In wanting to do well, students often find themselves navigating a teaching approach that, by necessity, prioritizes this group environment, and they resort to finding their own way through topics and exams - a path they don't need to navigate alone.
This is where I can help. Having been in both the student and teacher roles of the academic experience, I've encountered the range of challenges and pitfalls that often lead to unsuccessful outcomes, and in the worst cases, a misjudgment of our own abilities and a lowering of our own potential. In distilling my dual experience, I have understood the keystone component that determines where these outcomes fall: Communication.
Since my time in the International Baccalaureate, and continuously throughout my further studies and teaching experiences as a full-time A-Level professor at LSI Hampstead in London, I've helped tutor students of all ages and backgrounds through a range of topics and exams. This multitude of experience has taught me one fundamental thing - a personal philosophy I've developed that exists at the core of my pedagogical approach: "Good tutors teach to the syllabus. Great tutors teach to the student".
Any form of learning - and teaching - at their core, relies on a verbal, visual, and conceptual exchange between people. The problem, however, is that every person's mind operates with its own distinct vocabulary - one that deserves time and attention to be properly understood and taught towards. Frameworks that may cement an understanding for one individual - be they a teacher or pupil - don't automatically translate to another, particularly when these approaches need to be homogenized and streamlined for collective education.
My priority as a private tutor is to be as useful to you and your specific needs as possible. In working together, I'll be able to garner a deep understanding of how and why things make sense to you, and integrate my experience and intuition to develop tailored pedagogical strategies that will surgically refine and reframe both your theoretical and examination skillsets.
