B.Sc. Bioinformatics with Honours from the University of Manchester, PGCE in Computer Science from Kings College London

Experience:

Having been a Computer Science teacher in UK high schools for 6 years, most of which I have spent as Head of Department in two schools, I have gathered well-rounded experience into what makes a truly engaging Computing lesson. I am familiar with modern pedagogical practice as it relates specifically to teaching Computing to ages 11 to 19.

Approach:

As a computer enthusiast myself, and having worked in IT for over a decade before moving to education, I make sure my lessons include a lot of real-life links; together with an approach tailored to each individual student's strengths, this helps make my lessons engaging and rewarding. I am very experienced in using modern online tuition tools to ensure my online lessons are even better than a face-to-face lesson would be. Through the use of collaborative documents and online whiteboards, the student and I can both work on the same document together at the same time, so the student is kept working throughout the lesson. Iintroduce myself over a video call, but I normally have both my and the student's video switched off during lessons; this is so that the student and I can focus on the lesson work more effectively. Video can be left on upon request from the parents.
