MA - Psychology of Music, PGCE - PGCE (Primary / Licensed), BA (Hons) - Music, CELTA - Certificate of English Language Teaching Adults

Experience:

I am a British fully qualified teacher with over 20 years’ experience of classroom teaching and private tutoring. I have taught in the UK, Spain, Belgium and the UAE. I have tutored all age groups and believe that the elements of successful learning are the same for both adults and children. Research on the elements of successful learning by the likes of John Hattie and Dylan Wiliam guide my approach to teaching rather than what is fashionable.

Approach:

At the start I ask the learner questions about themselves, their situation and what they want to learn. I tailor lessons to their needs. All lessons start with a review, objectives and end with a plenary. The plenary involves asking the learner how they felt about the lesson to identify areas of ‘uncertainty’ that may need revision and then a short practice exercise is set (for another day) to review and consolidate the learning. From the review I will then revise/modify the next lesson.
