Experience:

My name is Paul Akinyemi and I have practiced as a teacher of mathematics for the last 4 years in the UK and am currently practicing in a local private secondary school here in Dubai. As well as educating in schools, I have also offered private tuition outside of school in maths and economics over the last 3 years, for which I have had very successful results.

Approach:

My lessons seek to develop students' understanding of mathematics as opposed to memorising processes to complete questions, this is to ensure that students have the requisite knowledge of a topic to approach more complex 'Problem Solving' activities/Worded propblems, those of us who are up to date with advances in education know that Problem Solving in abstract scenrarios is a skill that has been given a greater emphasis in the new specifications of IGCSE therefore it is essential students are able to do this, now more than ever. To ensure the best progress for students I believe it is vital that tuition services run parallel to the curriculum followed in school by the student, rather than teaching a completely different topic to what students are doing in school, I would seek to supplement current learning by ensuring students grasp concepts properly, or extending current knowledge to a greater depth for students who would be higher attainers.
