Experience:

I have worked as a Primary School Teacher for 8 years and have tutored students aged 11-13 in English and Math for the past 5 years. I usually tutor two evenings a week with each session lasting 1 to 1.5 hours. I have been extremely proud of the students academic development over this time, but also how they have grown in confidence socially during my time with them. During each session, I like to set goals for the students to achieve and I strongly believe this is a good way of keeping them focused throughout.

Approach:

I believe it is always good to be well prepared in advance of each tutoring session. Each session brings with it new challenges. I like to put the students at ease and feel comfortable and happy in their learning environment. To achieve this, I like to begin and end each session with a general conversation on how they are and learn about their interests. I believe this helps to build a good relationship with the student and this can be beneficial when it comes to getting the most out of each session academically.
