Experience:

I am a native English speaker with 7 years of teaching experience. I have taught 2 years in the United States and 5 years in the United Arab Emirates, working primarily with English language learners. I have a master’s degree in education as well as a certificate in English from Oxford Seminars. I am certified to teach general education subjects, including English, mathematics, science and social studies (KG-grade 8).

Approach:

I enjoy teaching, and I foster a love of learning by engaging my students. I use a variety of methods to engage my students. In math, I implement the use of manipulatives. These hands-on learning experiences are concrete examples that improve a student’s understanding of the math skills needed to solve more challenging problems. English is best acquired through a variety of reading, writing, listening and speaking experiences. To improve reading, I teach a number of strategies to help improve a student’s ability to comprehend a text as well as read fluently and accuracy in English. I differentiate writing. My students learn the success criteria to become proficient in responding to the narrative, informative, and persuasive writing prompts. I also scaffold listening and speaking throughout lessons so that listening and speaking in English is taught during each lesson.
