Experience:

I qualified with a bachelor of education degree from Dublin City University and I have 4 years tutoring experience. I also hold a TEFL qualification and have worked teaching children English from different nationalities. My own personal teaching philosophy is that children learn best when there is a good relationship between the teacher and the learner. I am an extremely calm, approachable and patient person traits necessary to be a good tutor in my opinion.

Approach:

Every child learns best through a variety of different teaching methodologies. I believe as a teacher when you first meet the child you are tutoring it is necessary to assess what exactly is the child's strengths as well as weaknesses. After realising this then it is easier to plan for future lessons. In my lessons, I always make sure to incorporate a starting activity that helps to assess the child's prior knowledge. Then as part of the main content of the lesson, I would incorporate different tasks/ activities using different methodologies such as research tasks on the subject, games and written tasks depending on whatever topic we were working on. As the closure part of the tutor session, I would always make sure to revise the concepts taught always ensuring I have a written diary of what we covered during the session. Overall it is important that the child has benefited from the session and the parents are aware of possible revision tasks they can do during the week to revise concepts taught.
