Please contact me through my website for any questions. www.benhubbardart.com Since 2008, I have worked as a freelance artist in the US and UAE. I have also worked as a graphic artist consultant, creating US State Park maps. I have taught drawing at the college level as well as various drawing and painting workshops at the Sharjah Art Foundation. In addition, I have taught private lessons for various ages. While in UAE, I focused on local landscapes, working from Plein Air studies.

Approach:

Representational drawing and painting will be taught, with an emphasis on learning to see and faithfully observe the subject matter. Still life, landscape, and portraits will be used to that end. We will begin with simple objects, learning to see and record the only thing possible to draw or paint: shapes. Learning to see shapes is essential for accurate representation of any subject matter. In addition, shapes are the building blocks of design. Learning the process of seeing is also necessary for illustration, graphic design, photography, cinematography, sculpture, abstract art...really any design! Plein air painting (open air, on-location) may also be taught. Students can accompany me on painting trips in and around the city, learning how to paint outdoors. We will start by learning indoors and then moving out of the studio. More time and supplies are required for this kind of training. Art supplies will be required for every lesson. Students are welcome to learn in my studio.
