Experience:

I have worked as an educator for 6 years, with students of many nationalities. I take pride in being able to make learning fun and tailoring my tutoring to my students' individual needs. I always I aim to make my students feel challenged but not overwhelmed. I have a BA English from Canada and many years experience as a field scientist. I have taught senior high-school level Biology and Statistics to students from UAE schools following various curricula (British, US, IB and ICSE/ISC)

Approach:

My lesson plans are designed specifically for each individual student and take into account the student's goals (ie: if they are preparing for a specific exam/working on a specific assignment, or are in need of general help with the subject), the syllabus the student is following, and the student's level of proficiency at the start of our tutoring sessions together. As mentioned, I like to use unconventional teaching methods: I have helped students learn English by using movies and comic books as learning aids, I have taught Biology by taking students on mini field trips to parks, wildlife centres and animal shelters, and for younger children, I have used educational games to make the learning process more fun and interactive. I do not believe in making students simply memorize facts without understanding what they are learning. I want them, as much as possible, to enjoy what they are learning and not think of it as a punishment or a trial to endure.
