Jodie Mortimer

Energetic, Enthusiastic, Passionate Swimming And Physical Education Teacher

Qualification:

ASA level 2 Swimming Teacher, Bsc (hons) Sport and Exercise Science, PGCE Physcial Education Primary and Secondary

Experience:

Over the past 10 years I have had a variety of experiences as a child carer, lifeguard, swimming and PE teacher, school sports co-ordinator. I am a qualified to teach key stage 1 to key stage 5, British national curriculum. Having been a National competitive swimmer myself I know what a life skill swimming is. I have taught swimming in Private health clubs, First choice holidays. I have taught sports and fundamentals in various countries, schools both primary, secondary and a Nursary.

Approach:

I am hard working and show great dedication when facilitating students learning, allowing them to go above and beyond previous predictions. I have high expectations of both myself and the pupils in achieving and progressing personally, cognitively, socially and academically. Through my love and enthusiasm of sport I can influence all pupils positively by encouraging participation with fun, holistic and creative physical activities. As a PE/swimming Teacher I aim to broaden student’s own personal knowledge and understanding by inspiring, encouraging and challenging them to meet their full potential. I do this by establishing positive relationships of respect with pupils and parents resulting in an effective, interactive and fun learning environment. Communication with parents and students is vital to share information of the students interests and school topics to maximise cross curriculum learning. I have used my energy and enthusiasm in developing innovative teaching styles that meet the varying needs of all students. For example, I have adapted schemes of work, created and used resources like; ipads for visual analysis and feedback. For early years, I use practical interactive stories and songs. During my PE/swimming based lessons I ensure that students develop their PE literacy from fundamental movements, to more sport specific and complex skills. As students develop, I create a safe environment to allowing them to be independent and take responsibility for their own learning. This in turn increases their ability and confidence to perform, lead and making good choices. This therefore increases enjoyment and results in long life participation in physical activity. Theory based lessons I have taught include health and fitness where we have looked at the biological effects, biometrics and kinetics of physical activity. Through my teacher training I team taught GSCE and was involved in A-level lessons. I have drawn from my own subject knowledge taken from enjoying my PE A-level and Sport Science Degree. This personal experience allows me to relate to the students learning journey, linking practical to theory based learning and understanding. I believe however, that is it not just in PE GSCE/A-level that a greater understanding should be developed. All of my lesson objectives to all key-stages aim to bring in many concepts and key words, so students are able to maintain an in-depth clear understanding of sports, health and wellbeing. Having being dyslexic myself I understand the varied learning needs. I have vast experience in teaching students with special education needs. I feel that physical education and swimming aid in motor and fine skills as well as a practical understand of life skills and other academic areas.
