Experience:

Professional guitarist for over 30 years. Studied classical cello and composition in Paris. Appeared on over 200 commercially released albums in Europe and the Middle East. I have been teaching privately for about 20 years. Also at the ESMUC (superior music school of Catalunya) and other less relevant schools in the Barcelona area. I also was a columnist for the Spanish magazine "guitar player" writing about improvisation techniques (jazz).

Approach:

When teaching privately it is critical to understand that each student has his own pace. Following this pace while stimulating curiosity is crucial to avoid frustration. When dealing with a deadline, such as a final exam, the need to focus on the weakest points can make the sessions more intense.  In my classes, I like to focus on the skills needed in a "real life" situation - such as a live performance or a recording session - and the team playing aspects. Always keeping in mind that not all students want to become professional musicians, therefore keeping the classes fresh and fun. For advanced students wanting to improve their playing and understanding of modern harmony, it is common practice to use existing music ( popular song, jazz standards, boss nova) and apply different approaches and improvisation techniques on the given chords and rhythms. I use standard material as well as my own.
