Experience:

I have been teaching for five years. I have taught Secondary PE, Year 6, Year 5 and Reception. I trained in Sydney, Australia where I taught for a year before moving to London. I taught Primary and EYFS in London for four years before I moved to Dubai, August 2016. Along side my teaching, I have also tutored for three years working with the British and Australian curriculum.

Approach:

One of my strengths is my experience across years and countries. I have learnt different approaches to learning and constantly apply these ideas into my practice. Another strength is my flexibility and willingness to always learn and try new things. This extends to my classroom and teaching as well. Often following the lead of the students and adapting my plans to meet their needs and learning style. My teaching style is a facilitator, or activity style. I aim to promote self-learning and help students develop critical thinking skills and retain knowledge that leads to self-actualisation. A benefit of this style is that it trains children to ask questions and helps develop skills to find answers and solutions through exploration.I plan my lessons based on the student's misconceptions and areas for improvement. To do this I would work along side the classroom teacher to ensure there is dialogue. After every lesson, I reflect on my lesson/teaching and identify the areas of strength and the areas of improvement. I reflect on how the student learnt and what can improve to further benefit the learning in the classroom. My lessons are one of a kind because I ensure the student feels safe to learn and eager to learn. I encourage them to make mistakes and take the risk to be challenged. I support them in learning the skills, but I do not do the work for them. I always aim to be positive and bring my passion of teaching and learning to the classroom so that they too can feel encouraged to give their best in the lesson. I get to know the student and their interests, where possible I include their interests into the lesson. For example: I tutored a 4 year boy that loved dinosaurs so when we were exploring addition and subtraction we used dinosaur models I have high standards for my students and I constantly encouraged them to be the best version of themselves and by doing that they can accomplish anything, I believe praise is a power tool in education and use positive reinforcement to let them know how well they are doing. Finally, I am organised and ensure my lessons, homework and marking are all up to date to ensure the student/s are able to get the best out of each lesson and from me.
