Experience:

Having worked as a class based English teacher for 22 years, my role has involved being Head of English and Teacher Trainer at different locations in London and Dubai. I graduated from Cardiff University with a B.A. Honours Degree in English Literature and Philosophy. Whilst my specialisms are in English Language and Literature, current modules taught on Social Science and International Relations programmes can also be supported due to the political and sociological studies within a Philosophy degree. I have a very high success rate in assisting my students in passing entrance exams for Dubai College as well as top London independent schools including Wycombe Abbey, Westminster College and Sevenoaks Independent School. This includes preparation for 11+,13+ and 16+ entrance exams. English students typically overachieve beyond their predicted grades at GCSE and A level. I have also supported students on Social Science Foundation Degrees at UCL and Queen Mary University in London and AUS in Sharjah. I am also able to assist students with writing their personal statements in addition to providing feedback and proof reading for university assignments. I have successfully supported students with their Common App writing for Ivy League universities. I now soley concentrate on working as a private tutor, enabling me to fully commit to my individual students. Having relocated back to the UK in 2016, I continue to support my Dubai based families and students via on line teaching and face to face lessons in Dubai in November and May during the exam periods. Students include Latifa School for Girls and Dubai College.  I am fully qualified with a Post Graduate Certificate in Education , a UK based Police Check DBS certificate as well as KHDA approval. 

Approach:

I am passionate about all aspects of the English curriculum syllabus from the UK and am able to inspire a love of learning in my students. I am able to develop creative writing skills in my students as well as offer text analysis and author study support from KS2 to KS5. Additionally, comprehension, composition and spelling and grammar skills can also be developed for the Year 5/6 student to ensure success at end of phase SATs tests. Tailor made lessons to suit the particular needs of each student ensure successful outcomes. Modelled and shared writing scaffolds the learning in order to build skills and confidence to work independently. I also assist students in organising revision notes and developing essay templates in order to manage time more effectively in exam conditions. In subjects involving critical analysis of evidence and the formulation of philosophical debates, the skills of research, cross referencing and persuasive writing are taught in shaping effective arguments in essays and extended assignments.  Where time or location prove challenging, on line tutoring using Skype and Google drive shared documents has proved very successful and enjoyable.
