Bachelor of Education (English & Social Studies), Qualifications to teach International Baccalaureate curriculum as well as Canadian curriculum. Bachelor of Arts (English, History, & Sociology).

Experience:

I have been tutoring students on and off for 12 years in Canadian curriculum and IB curriculum middle school English, Social Studies, MYP I&S, MYP English, high school English and History, DP History, DP Language and Literature, and DP Theory of Knowledge. Furthermore, I have 15 years of experience in the teaching profession. I have been educated and trained in the Canadian curriculum, as well as in the IB curriculum. IB Experience (8 years): DP History, DP Language & Literature, Theory of Knowledge, MYP Individuals & Societies. Canadian Experience (7 years): High School English, Middle School English & Social Studies.

Approach:

1) I need to know the student. What kind of learner is he/she? What skills does the student need to improve in? Why does the student sometimes struggle with the content? What kind of lesson structure and lesson activities work best for the student? What are the student's study habits, and how do these need to be improved? 2) I will look at examples of the student's previous assessments. What were the grades, what was the feedback? What did the student do well? What does the student need to work on to improve for the final exams? 3) The student and I create a study and lesson schedule. After that, I will plan and create materials for lessons to work toward the student's improvement in key skills and in content according to the student's needs. I will also make time to help the student with his/her homework and to help the student prepare for his/her assessments by working through the study process with the student and helping the student to revise his/her work.
