Qualification:

Graduate Diploma in Primary Education, Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts, Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language.

Experience:

I am in my 8th year of teaching and I have tutored throughout. Currently I am working as the Head of Year 5/Year 5 teacher however I have taught/tutored students from years 1-6. I specialise in English, maths and geography tutoring but also have experience of tutoring science and history. I spent two years working in special educational needs and learning support so I am closely aware of the particular needs of individual students and have numerous effective strategies that I can put in place for students who are struggling with their academic work.

Approach:

I feel it's very important to initially assess the student to see where their strengths and challenges are. I also think that a bond needs to be developed between the student and the teacher which ultimately has a positive effect on results. My approach is to pre teach the student so they will be ready and more capable of learning the material when it is covered in their school. It also means that they will be a step ahead at all times. When pre teaching is not possible I make sure to teach the student the fundamental skills of the subject in question so they can transfer these skills whenever they need to be applied.
