  1. Subject - Mathematics Lecture No Chapter - Vectors and Transformations Today's Targets Construct given enlargements of simple plane figures .- 04
  2. Enlargement When an object is enlarged, the result is an image which is mathematically similar to the object but of a different size. The image can be either larger or smaller than the original object. Image length Scale factor = Original length
  3. Negative enlargement The diagram below shows an example of negative enlargement. With negative enlargement each point, and its image are on opposite sides of the centre of enlargement. c B' Scale factor • fenlargennent is -2
  4. Question In the diagram below, the rectangle ABCD undergoes a transformation to form rectangle A'B'C'D': (a) Find the centre of enlargement. (b) Calculate the scale factor of enlargement.
  5. Question Copy the following diagrams and enlarge the objects by the scale factor given and from the centre of enlargement shown. Scale ractor
  6. Question The scale factor of enlargement and centre of enlargement are both given. Copy and complete the diagram. Scale factor of enlargetnent is
  7. Question On the grid, enlarge the shape by scale factor 3, centre A.
  8. Question Describe fully the single transformation that maps shape P onto shape Q.
  9. Question Enlarge triangle B by scale factor 3, centre (1, 2).
  10. [S16, 42, Q3 (a-ii)] On the grid, draw the image of shape A after an enlargement with scale factor -2, centre (0, 1).
  11. [W17, 21, Q16] Describe fully the single transformation that maps triangle A onto triangle B.
  12. [S17, 43, Q6 (a- ii)] Describe fully the single transformation that maps shape A onto shape C. 12 -10 -10-8 -6 -4 .-2 -12 2 B 12 14 x
  13. Revision Enlargement: An enlargement is a transformation that changes the size ofthe shape: The scale factor tells you how many times bigger each edge of the enlarged image will be compared to the corresponding edge on the original object. If the scale factor is greater than 1, the enlarged image will be bigger than the original object. If the scale factor is less than 1, the enlarged image will be smaller than the original object. The position of a shape will also change with enlargement. The orientation of the shape will be the same for a positive enlargement.
  14. Revision Describing Enlargement: For an enlargement, you must: State that the transformation is an enlargement. State the scale factor. Give the coordinates of the centre of enlargement.
