I am a firm believer that creativity should play an essential part in supporting the learning and development of a child. For example, during this academic year I planned and taught a lesson on fractions by using the ‘Teddy Bears Picnic Song’ as a stimulus. All of the children brought in their own teddy bears from home and I took the children outside to the picnic area which had been set up like a real life teddy bears picnic. It was here where I introduced the concept of what fractions are and the children had the opportunity to find halves and quarters of different types of foods. During this lesson it was a remarkable sight to witness all children achieving the aims laid out in the success criteria whilst, at the same time having fun and experiencing the links between learning and real life. I believe in utilizing flexible teaching strategies, rather than a strict adherence to a particular teaching style. This allows me to adjust my instruction to match the abilities and pre-existing knowledge that each student brings to the classroom. In light of this, I always differentiate objectives and activities to meet specific learner needs which ensures children feel a sense of success thus leading to a positive classroom climate. In addition to this, I make it my sole aim to always ascertain where a child is at in their learning, plan where they need to go next and then teach accordingly. I am a teacher who always gets excited about the lessons I teach and put all my effort and energy into finding innovative ways to keep my children interested.

I call the parent ahead of time and ask them about the nature of their kids, if they respond better to practical learning or theoretical.
