Course Details

This course focuses on developing skills in 2D animation using software for creating storyboards and animations. Students will work on conceptualization, creativity, and visual aesthetics, and produce various 2D animations using different software tools.

Course Outline:

• Animation Basics:

  • History of animation, principles (key-frames, in-betweens, squash/stretch)
  • Timing, spacing, slow in/out, anticipation
  • Morphing, visual rhythm, and transitions

• Software Training:

  • Photoshop (PS): Brushes, character design, animation prep
  • After Effects (AE): Keyframing, motion paths, puppet animation, and 3D space

• Character and Design:

  • Walk cycles, character design principles (appeal, personality)
  • Staging, composition, color, and shot composition

• Advanced Techniques:

  • Lip-sync, stop motion, text tools & animation
  • Sound for animation, writing treatments, and storyboarding
  • Final Project: Storyboarding, animatics, and sound integration

Skills Gained:
Storyboarding, character design, timing, 2D animation techniques, sound integration, and final project creation.
