ICDL European Computer Driving License (ECDL) also known as International Computer Driving License (ICDL) is a computer literacy certification program provided by the ECDL Foundation, a not for profit organization. The ECDL / ICDL certification is a globally recognized Information and Communication Technology and digital literacy certification. According to ECDL Foundation, the ECDL / ICDL certification is recognized and supported by governments, computer societies (BCS), international organizations and commercial corporations. The ECDL / ICDL certification is available in 148 countries and in 42 languages. As of 2009, ECDL Foundation has issued more than 9 million ECDL / ICDL skills cards. ECDL Foundation markets the ECDL / ICDL certification program to people who need to demonstrate their full competence in the use of a personal computer and common computer applications and that they know the essential concepts of the Information Technology. Prospective Candidates are expected to have used computers and have seen some of the common software applications before. Programs are available for Candidates with other skill requirements.
