In the absence of a carefully structured system of appraisal, people tend to judge the work performance of others, including subordinates, naturally, informally and arbitrarily. But this can create serious motivational, ethical and legal problems in the workplace. Without a structured appraisal system, there is little chance of ensuring that the judgments made will be lawful, fair, defensible and accurate. This workshop examines a school’s particular context and assists Senior managers in setting up a realistic, easily manageable performance management system.

  • School owners on devising a specific principal or head teacher performance management plan
  • Heads of administration/Office staff on tailoring the principles of performance management to a business setting
  • Learn how a performance management system can assist a school to deliver its objectives and maintain a continuous pattern of improvement
  • Critically assess the strengths and weaknesses of a sample of performance management systems in everyday use
  • Draw up a viable performance management system for trialing with a group of staff based on job descriptions, school priorities and defined performance standards
  • Learn how to write SMART performance objectives and determine  success criteria
  • Understand the links between intrinsic and extrinsic rewards and performance management – the ‘What’s In It For Me?’ factor
