Course Details

Effective allocation of time and resources is the key to realizing improvements in student achievement. How effectively do school leaders use time? How much time falls into the ‘value-added’ category and how much is wasted? How often is the physical environment and staffing assessed to ensure the best possible allocation, or does historical inertia act as a limiting factor so ‘This is the way it has always been’ is never challenged? These all will be answered as you pursue the program.

Participants will:

• Consider old versus new thinking on resource allocation and use of time
• Examine excellent practice using case studies in schools requiring change
• Assess their own school’s resource allocation using a tried-and-tested diagnostic tool
• Understand how inspection findings can be used to trigger change in how a school organizes its space, staff and resources
• Plan more effective allocation of resources in one key area of their own school
• Learn how to influence those who may be reluctant to allocate additional funding
• Examine how to restructure the physical environment without requiring additional funding

This course is part of a suite of Leadership courses; it may be taken as a stand-alone course or be combined with one or more from the suite to obtain either a Bronze, Silver or Gold level Leadership Award (please see the Leadership Suite page for more details).
