Ways Of Giving Kids Moral Education

Setting good examples for kids is a good way to start with. However, parents should also be prepared to teach their kids moral values actively. There are several ways in which parents can start doing this, but following are some prior ideas to start with:

You can start with reading books together. Sincerely choose those books in which right and wrong are elucidated and read together every day as a family. Be specific about which videos and movies your kids should permit to watch. It has been found that those children who have watched more “pro-social” TV shows are considerably less aggressive and more respectful towards their elders.

Get your kids involved in such activities that will help them to learn good morals. Volunteer those opportunities that are perfect for your kids age and will help them to learn the moral values of tolerance, giving and responsibility..

Spending Time with your Kids

If you want to impart good character training to your kids, you need to spend time with them. Kids who are outwardly rebellious usually look for someone with whom they can be close to and admire; if you don’t want to make time for your kids then they are likely to turn to be an individual who may or may not be interested in moral values.

The most important aspect of spending time with your kids is to listening them dedicatedly. You can also ask them open ended questions that will help you find out what’s their idea about life. As children grow older, the chances are they will start to rebel against your moral values and other important things that you teach and promote. This should be expected and parents should not be surprised or get depressed when older kids start rebelling or question the moral values that they have followed in since ages.

You shouldn’t get angry at your kids if they question or even challenge the basic moral values like hard work and tolerance. Getting angry on them will discourage them to listen what is being said. Furthermore, getting angry may intimidate your kids for not questioning what their parents have to say, it will never make a child or teenager want to agree with their parents. One thing you always need to remember that the goal is not to raise “yes-men” but to teach your kids to embrace moral values not only for short term but also for long term.

Give Your Kids Unconditional Love

The universal truth of earth is everyone makes mistakes at certain times. Even children those who have been given good moral education will at times behave in a morally unacceptable way. During this phase you must discipline your kid but it is also important to let them know that he or she is still being loved.

Unconditional love towards your kids plays an important role in parenting. Your kids must believe, beyond any shadow of doubt, their parents will love them no matter what they do or say. You must remind their kids that you love them and nothing will ever change this fact.
