Have you noticed how swiftly some students learn to solve complex Chemical equations? Or, memorize Mathematical formulas? Or even learn the dates in History? There are more examples. One of my friends, Imran has mastered Arabic in less than three months, whereas it generally requires at least six months to learn any new language!
Genius people, with extraordinary intellect, aren’t they? Seems God has blessed them with outstanding learning skills and analytic abilities, but has forgotten to impart those very qualities in us. Is it so? What is the secret behind their ‘super-quick’ journey to successful learning?
Well, you got to believe what I’m going to tell you now. Very few humans are ‘born intelligent’. What makes them different is: their attitude. How? When I say ‘attitude’, I mean the techniques they adopt, to instill the knowledge they acquire into their brain. And, if you aspire to be one of them, you better be acquainted with their unique strategies to learn things quickly!
If your fellow humans can, you can, too. Learning lessons is not rocket science. Never was. So, let me crack the mystery of ‘quick learning’ with a few clever tips on the following paragraphs:
Start writing blogs: Remember this golden rule: do it to learn it. Instead of only reading up blogs, books and journals to learn how to bake a cake, why not do it yourself? After all, humans learn by trial and error. So, convert your potential energy to kinetic energy today. And, don’t just take down the lectures. Start writing a blog on the subject you are learning and educate others, while you learn. When you are teaching somebody else, you’re simplifying a particular concept. This helps you understand it better.
Drown to the depths: Another secret to quick learning is to drown into the depths of knowledge. Start by choosing the best person related to your topic and listen to their opinions or instructions on YouTube. Read everything written by them. Don’t give up even if you’re unable to grasp the meaning initially. Continue your research and find yourself the best tutor who can guide you in this field. If you compare yourself to your peers, you’ll go nowhere. So try to be inspired by the best, and be the best!
Keep practicing: Practice leads to perfection. And trust me, there are no shortcuts to success. Some learners practice for longer durations. But, you must practice regularly than doing so continuously for over two hours. If you are learning salsa, make sure you practice it daily, for at least fifteen minutes rather than doing it twice a week for four hours. Such a persistence will make you stronger in your subject, in the long run. Also, remember to revise the last day’s lesson while you practice. Make it a practice.
Simplify the learning process: Having trouble understanding an idea? Cannot figure out a concept in Physics even after attending two lectures? Or following YouTube videos? Chill. For you need a dose of the famous Feynman technique for better learning! Do you know what it is? It is a unique learning procedure devised by the American physicist, Richard Feynman, for simplifying the process of learning. All you require is a piece of paper and a pen. Because, it is proven that writing down really helps the brain to register new lessons.
Repeat your lessons: Just like writing helps you learn quicker, repeating is another smart catalyst for improved learning. When you repeat whatever you’re trying to learn, every single day – you are compelling your brain to create an instant recall. This way, you will discover that you can retain things in your memory. Repeating lessons is one of the smartest study strategies that enable you to learn faster and more effectively. Haven’t you seen how fast you can recall the definitions in the exam, that you revised for the last time?
Collect learning materials: If learning really interests you, it must be your passion. Love it passionately, and don’t part from it even for a moment! Register yourself with websites that would keep you updated on your topic 24×7. Read up anything and everything about it from newspapers, news websites, popular blogs, journals, magazines or social networking sites. Follow ‘Like’ pages in Facebook or ‘follow’ in Twitter to maintain an uninterrupted flow of information into your system. In short, ‘inhale’ the topic who are eager to learn in every possible way.
Keep asking ‘why’: I personally never stop questioning my teacher or instructor till I am finally convinced of the topic or the subject that I am trying to learn. So, I ask “why” as many as, at least five times! Surprised? Well, don’t be friends. I know some of you might feel humiliated to ask questions to your teacher in front of the entire class. Some others are introverts or simply shy. But, isn’t it better to sound like a fool once than be one for the rest of your lives?
Follow these basic strategies and find yourself evolve into a quick learner in no time at all. Yes, of course there are several other smart-learning processes, but the ones I mentioned above are the easiest for anyone and everyone. However, I would like to mention yet another important thing here. Please note that you can only learn something swiftly, if you harbor a genuine interest and ‘love’ for that particular subject.
I have seen some parents making attempts to force their kids to learn swimming and Yoga. For such children, learning something new is an overburdening challenge. Rather, try to find out what appeals to your kids the most. And motivate your child to pursue his interest. Then, watch your kids enjoying the process of learning!
