You have probably heard this many a times in the past from your elders or teachers that there’s no definite shortcut to success. You need to work your socks off to get yourself to your goal.

But is it really true?

There is no alternative to hard work which is true, in a sense; but, in case you really want to get yourself up to the level of perfection, you need to work smart as well to give yourself an additional edge over the competitors in the business. Maybe the following list of tips can help.

1. Draw diagrams

If you are looking to memorize Biological, Physics, or Chemistry diagrams, draw them out. You will remember them better.

The same also goes for geometrical drawings.

2. Use the “Times New Roman” font while taking notes on a computer

The Times New Roman font is widely considered as the most comfortable font to read. So naturally, we will ask you to take down notes in this font while you are on a computer.

After all the more you see, the quicker you remember.

3. Integrate a reward system in your practice

If you can complete this chapter in the next half an hour, two hours of FIFA is guaranteed after nine.”

Try things like these. It does work.

Note: Rewards don’t have to be costly. Like the game of FIFA highlighted above, even an extra half an hour of TV is more than worthy of being a reward.

4. Teach

The best way of learning and remembering things is to teach what you have just learned, especially in terms of a Layman. This can contribute a lot to the long-term retention of information.

Ever heard of the Feynman Learning Technique? Have a look.

5. Use highlighters

Highlighting important passages of the text can help you remember vital points at a moment’s notice. So use them to your advantage.

6. Take a walk

It’s a proven fact that exercise does indeed boost your memory and brain power.

So why don’t you take a 20-minutes walk around the campus before diving deep into your studies (especially before your exam day)? It can do your brain a whole lot of good in picking things up quicker than you realize it.

7. Try to find connections with the matter you are reading with the real world

The ability to detect connections between abstract objects and the real world is the fuel of intelligence and creativity.

Here’s what Steve Jobs said on the matter:

Creativity is just connecting things. When you ask creative people how they did something, they feel a little guilty because they didn’t really do it, they just saw something.”

Thus, if you can connect the text with the real world, remembering things would become nothing but a piece of cake for you.

8. Search Google like a professional

The following information may come in handy for your purpose:

  • Searching with quotation marks: “Einstein invented the theory of relativity”- Using quotation marks in your search query lets you search EXACTLY for that word or phrase.

  • Searching with dashes: “blind –player”- If you want to exclude a particular term from your search results, insert a dash before the term.

  • Searching with Tilde: “football ~classes”- Use tilde with your term when you also want its synonyms to appear in the result. Example, The query above would search for football, football coaching, football classes, etc.

  • Searching with site: site:learnpick.in - Use this operator to search within a particular website.

  • Searching with vertical bars: shirt |jeans |frock- This query would search only those websites having two or all of the above-mentioned terms.

  • Searching with Two Periods: movies 1970..1980- Use two periods [..] when you want to search within two number ranges.

9. Use flashcards

Flashcards can play a crucial role in quick testing essential concepts, quotes, definitions, and formulas. They can also play a vital role in the long-term retention of information.

10. Avoid studying in the same place every day

Periodic change of study environment can do your brain a whole lot of good and can also make you remember things better.

Try it. You won’t regret it for sure.

So that completes our list for now. Hope the tips and tricks mentioned above come in handy for your purpose.
