A number of parents of a prominent school in Dubai said guardians have not been educated adequately ahead of time what course books to purchase for the new scholastic year, which begins on April 1.

The guardians revealed to Gulf News they will just discover upon the arrival of the book deal itself, which will be held at the Indian High School (IHS) from March 28 to March 30, contingent upon the evaluation. This will abandon them brief period to purchase books at 'better arrangements' from outside the school.

As indicated by the guardians, beforehand the book list was distributed more ahead of time, giving guardians more opportunity to search for "better prices" than charged by the book shop at IHS.

However, in a statement to Gulf News, IHS said: “Going by the norms of the past 20 years at the school, the book list is made available on the same day of the book sale.”

It added that the school has taken “a radical decision to provide more online resources than printed material with effect from 2020-21”.

In any case, a few guardians disclosed to Gulf News that IHS used to uncover the book list around 10 to 15 days before the primary day of school.

“Why doesn’t the school issue the book list well in advance, why does it have to be on the day of the sale itself? It takes time to shop around for the best price, and by issuing the book list so close to the reopening of the school, parents will be left with too little time to do that,” Abid said.

Another parent, Satrugna Raj, said: “Some families are on holiday in India during the break before the school reopens. If they knew in advance what books to buy, they could buy it for cheaper in India. Even in the UAE, you can find good prices for the books in the open market, but we need time to look around.”

S.A., a parent who only gave his initials, said: “One of my children is going to KG2 and the other is going to Grade 6 from April. I can’t budget for their books because I don’t know what books to buy; I don’t know if those books are available in the open market; and I don’t know at what price. It’s too constraining to find out only on the day of the book sale, especially when it’s so close to the first day of class.”
