Minister for Education Joe McHugh is to have a progression of townhall-style gatherings with Irish teachers situated in the United Arab Emirates this late spring in an offer to persuade numerous to return home.
Schools state they are confronting an "emergency" in the supply of educators at both essential and second dimension.
It is assessed that upwards of 6,000 Irish teachers are based abroad, with huge numbers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
Addressing columnists, Mr McHugh said he has asked the Irish Embassy in Abu Dhabi to survey teachers situated in the locale to show signs of improvement feeling of why they have emigrated and help distinguish what obstructions they face to returning home.
He is because of visit the region this late spring and host a progression of gatherings with teachers the nation over.
“I don’t want to arrive to UAE from a plane just for the sake of a conversation and then come home. So, I’m doing preliminary work and engaging with the embassy in UAE . . . I’ll also organise townhall meetings to meet with them [teachers] and see what we can do.”
Mr McHugh was talking preceding the yearly gathering in Killarney of the school the management body which speaks to religious wilful auxiliary schools.
Deirdre Mathews, leader of the Association of Management of Catholic Secondary Schools and Joint Managerial Body, said instructor supply was the single most concerning issue confronting the area.
