Developing discipline is one of the most important things for every child. And for this, it is crucial to understand proper classroom behavior and follow them accordingly. Discipline forms one of the fundamental building blocks of a person’s life. Every child should possess a basic set of etiquettes that should be observed in the classroom. A few of them are discussed here.
Respect Your Teachers
This is probably one of the most overstated aspects of classroom etiquettes. Nowadays notorious students apply the clichéd ‘respect should be earned’ statement to it. That is, without a doubt, quite a wrong belief, as the instructor is supposed to help you attain knowledge. Isn’t this why you enrolled in the school in the first place? ‘Respect’ doesn’t mean overdoing or over-implying the fact that you need to follow your teacher blindly.
Now, that is a mistake. Your teacher is your guide and mentor. You are supposed to be polite and be able to communicate with him, not be scared of him. Neither over-endorsing your respect nor being rude are the proper methods. What you need to do is:
Be Regular and Punctual
You need to attend your classes regularly, if not restricted due to acknowledgeable difficulties. Missing out on a class will not only hamper your learning process, but could also stand out to be a bit of a problem for your classmates. I will tell you how.
The class would progress at its own pace. If you are absent, or late, you would miss out on a lesson that has been assigned for that particular day. This would make it difficult for you to understand the following lessons. So, you would tend to ask questions about the class you missed and this would eat up the time allotted for the present day lessons. Therefore, do not be absent unless you absolutely have to. Also, if you enter a class late, that is not only deemed as bad manners, but also forms a source of unnecessary distraction for your fellow classmates.
Be Quiet during a Lesson
A quiet class optimizes the learning procedure. An almost zero interruption environment not only makes your teacher fully audible to the students in the last bench, but also helps you understand the lessons better. Students can contribute the most to such an atmosphere. You could:
Be Responsible for Your Actions
If you are guilty of any conduct, the best possible thing you can do is take the responsibility instead of blaming others and apologize. Making a scapegoat out of an innocent classmate just for the fun of it does not make you the talk of the town. Even if it does, that does not reflect on you in any positive way. Refrain from such notorious conducts.
Apart from this, taking the responsibility of your education is important as well. You are supposed to understand your lessons, clarify your doubts, ask the necessary questions, do your homework, and all that is necessary to qualify in the exams. Remember that you are going to appear for the exam, so taking the necessary steps towards it is your own responsibility.
Come to the Class Prepared Enough
Bring your own stationery. Do not badger your friends with your requirements. Put in your pens, pencils, notebooks, and so on in your bag the night before. This will ensure that you do not need to look around for these necessities when you are in the classroom. That would create unnecessary disruptions in the class.
Do not forget to complete your homework. Homework is important because it assesses how much you have understood in the class. It also helps the teachers have an idea about that. Therefore, forgetting it at home is not an excuse at all. You should go through the lessons of the last class at home, so that you can understand the next day’s lessons properly. Ask questions if you do not follow, but know your chapters well.
Participation is Vital
Interact with the teachers and other students in your class. Do not be a passive learner. Volunteer a response instead of waiting to be called over. Pay attention to your instructor and also to the questions that your fellow classmates are asking, so that you do not end up asking the same questions again. Ask relevant questions.
Avoid Being Messy or Hostile
Be organized in your work and handling stationery or computers or other amenities provided by your institute. Being messy will disrupt your studies a great deal. Keep your own space clean and clutter-free, so that it doesn’t interrupt with the workflow of the whole classroom. Replenish your stationery as soon as you are on the verge of running out.
You should also respect your classmates and not be rude with them. You might experience behavioral or other clashes, but handling them in a responsible way would be the right method of dealing with such problems. Greet your teachers properly. Everybody likes to indulge in fun activities. But see to it that you are not indulging in such activities at the expense of others and also keep the time and place in mind.
