Top End-of-Year School Activities for Students

Students at the end of an academic year have mixed feelings - they are happy as they are promoted to a higher class and they are a step closer to their career goal. Also, this academic year-end makes them nervous about the syllabus and do-ables of the next class. Teachers need to engage their students in some activities where they can stay active and converse with their classmates either virtually or face-to-face. Here are some activities to do on the end date of an academic year. 

A Handmade Scrapbook

Memories are an important part of life and on the end day of a session, a teacher may encourage the students to make a scrapbook. Here, the students will write the most happening classroom or out-of-classroom memories of the entire year. This scrapbook will make the students smile when they will check this later. 

Teachers also need to encourage the students to be as creative as possible in making the scrapbook. The teacher can share some ideas from YouTube or take help from the art teacher. 

In case the students are making this scrapbook as a homework assignment, guardians need to stay away from helping the students. The students can stick whatever they want - a photo or any small object to make the scrapbook livelier. On the other hand, the class teacher may ask the students to bring something in case the students will make the scrapbook in the classroom. 

A Farewell Performance/Video 

Students are often much emotionally attached to their teacher. Stepping to a higher class indicates that the students will rarely get a chance to interact with their favorite teacher. This is especially true for the kids because in KGs and pre-Primary section one or two teachers handle the entire class. On the higher class, these students will not meet these teachers again. 

So, teachers can engage the students for a farewell performance. It can be a group performance or solo ones. In case, the students are doing virtual classes, they can make a farewell video for their class teacher. They can collaborate with their classmates through Zoom or Skype and make short videos. 

Memorizing Everything Learned

On the end date of a session, this will be a cool activity for the students. Here, the students will chalk out a list of things they have learned in an entire year. It has to be subject-wise a list and to make this activity interesting, the teacher can make different groups. 

This has to be a group activity as the students will help each other to complete this activity. This activity will help the students to converse with each other and complete the do-ables of this task. 

Teach the Class 

Just like making a list of things learned in a year, the teacher can allow at least 10 minutes for each student to teach the class. This activity helps the students to become a teacher for 10 minutes. Once, the list of things learned in a year is prepared, the class teacher can proceed with this activity. 

Here, the teacher will select a topic for each student. On that topic, the student will have to teach the class for at least 10 minutes. This activity will definitely make the end day of the academic year memorable for a long time. 

A Tour to Next Classroom

Teachers can take the students on a tour to the next grade classroom. If it is an online class, the teacher can opt for a virtual tour of the next class. 

Send Thank You Notes and Memoirs 

This activity is also related to the creativity of the students and it will help them to show their gratitude to everyone who helped them to do well in their academics. It can be the school staff, lab staff, teachers, parents, bus/cab drivers, classmates, and others - everyone deserves a thank you note for helping the students to complete the session successfully. 

Along with a simple thank you note, the students can include a memoir of not more than 10 words especially for their friends who will change their schools from the next session.

A Solo Performance

After all, this is the session’s end day and the students deserve some entertainment. With this activity, the teacher can ask each student to perform whatever the students want to. A dance, a song, stand-up comedy, drawing, or anything the students want. With this activity, the students will be able to show their talents to the entire class and create a good impression. Online learners can simply give a live performance. 

No matter the students are in the classroom or doing online classes, the end-of-year day has to be special. The teachers can use these ideas or they can be creative to bring a new activity in the classroom. Teachers simply need to encourage all the students to participate in the activities to help them to communicate with each other.
